Great Horned Owls

Hi!
Today I will be talking about Great Horned Owls!

It's scientific name is Bubo Virginianus.

They are the heavist extant owl in Central and South America. Relatives to the Snowy Owl. They eat about any living creature that walks, crawls, flies, or swims, except for large mammals. Reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans and even insects are usually a part of it's prey.

Due to its natural-colored plumage, it is well camouflaged day and night. Owls have amazing vision, allowing to pinpoint prey and see in low light. Their eyes are about the size of humans. Owls have 300 pounds PSI of crushing power.

The Great Horned Owl is heavily built with a large head and broad wings. Adults have large ear tufts.
It's call usually sounds like this: ho-ho-hoo. The voice is normally deep.

This is what one looks like.

Owl Pellets

Today's post is about owl pellets! (no it's not poop)

Well let's get started!

Owl pellets aren't that big, maybe the size of a toy mouse.
I have dissected one before at it is pretty cool!
Some of the bones from animals you can find in the pellet are:
Mouse
Gophers
Rats
Moles
And very rarely, birds.

There is different sizes for each type of owl.

In the owl pellets you can find:
Fur
Bones
Feathers

You can buy them online. They sanitize them so they aren't smelly.

This is what it looks like wrapped up:

You may be saying, "This is gross!" but after you have dissected one it's really fun.

If you want any more information let me know in the comments!

3.Most owls are nocturnal. Meaning that they come out at night.
4. Owls cannot move their eyeballs.
5. Owls can't spin their head 360 degrees.
